About Me
Nice to meet you!
Hi, I’m Eva! I’m a Polestar Pilates Practitioner and nationally certified Pilates teacher (PMA-CPT).
I want to help you move better, feel better and enjoy your life to the fullest.
Why?
I spent 24 years running a very successful German translation business specialized in health, medicine and fitness. In 2006, I also began teaching yoga. I always loved movement and felt pretty healthy, but all that desk work in addition to old injuries took its toll. My neck and my arms hurt so badly – all the way down to my fingertips – I thought I’d have to stop working at the job I loved. Something clearly had to change. But what?
After an agonizing journey from massage therapists of all kinds to doctors, an amazing physical therapist finally steered me towards Pilates in 2012 and I’ve never looked back: I am now free from my chronic shoulder, wrist and back pain and can once again fully enjoy my work, my workouts and my life!
I knew that what had worked for me would work for others if I could only show them how.
Through rigorous, extensive training with one of the best Pilates programs out there, continuing education and my personal quest for knowledge, I’ve learned to do just that. And what’s more, I know that every body needs something a little bit different and what that is. That’s why I create completely customized Pilates sessions for every client, every time.
I have helped desk workers and musicians, roadies and artists (this is Nashville, after all!), athletes and seniors get out of pain, safely rehab their bodies and quickly gain strength and flexibility.
My goal is to show you how to heal your body through movement.
That’s why I’ve created Sunroom Pilates – A Brighter Place. I want the space I love so much to be a bright spot in your life as well. I want you to feel welcome here, no matter what your age, ability, gender or size.
As a Polestar Pilates Practitioner, I have completed a rigorous 500-hour, comprehensive, yearlong training capped by an intensive 2-day exam. A nationally certified PMA-CPT, I spent weeks studying for the national certification exam for Pilates teachers. I love what I do and continually seek to learn more about it. I have taught yoga since 2006 and made a living as a highly specialized German translator for health and medicine since 1995, when I received my MA from the renowned Johannes-Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany. This background, coupled with keen observation skills, a unique ability to listen and a deep love of all forms of movement and has equipped me with the one skill I have always sought: Helping others heal through movement.
I can’t wait to meet you and help you achieve your goals!
The Studio
My studio is a bright, open, welcoming place. Located at my home, it provides plenty of sunlight in a quiet location. In summer, you can often hear birds singing.
In addition to ample mat space, my space is furnished with a full array of professional, state-of-the-art Balanced Body Pilates equipment: Reformer (Allegro 2 – the kind you’ve probably seen at studios around town), Trapeze Table (also known as “Cadillac”) and a Combo Chair. Various small props as well as a Spine Corrector round out the studio setup.
Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Clothes you can move freely in. Try not to wear anything too baggy. It doesn’t have to be fancy. Socks (preferably the “grippy” kind) or bare feet work well.
IS PILATES FOR ME IF I’M OUT OF SHAPE/CAN’T TOUCH MY TOES?
Pilates is perfect for you! The beautiful thing about private Pilates sessions is that I can meet you exactly where you are – and you’ll be amazed at the progress you make!
I’M COMING BACK FROM AN INJURY, SURGERY OR HAVE A MEDICAL CONDITION.
This is a great time to start Pilates!
Please make sure your physician has cleared you for this type of exercise.
Most likely, I can put together a program that will quickly progress you toward your goal and get started right away. Some conditions do require a medical release.
I also love working hand in hand with your physician and/or physical therapist to speed up your recovery!
I WORK OUT ALL THE TIME. WHY SHOULD I DO PILATES?
First of all, good for you! When we work out hard, we generally notice that there are imbalances and constraints in our bodies that can lead to injuries and hamper progress. In private sessions, I’ll help injury-proof your body and counteract the imbalances and limitations that are holding you back. (Did you know Pilates is all the rage among NFL players and other pro athletes? For good reason!) Contact me for an assessment and we’ll make a plan. You’ll be amazed at what your body can achieve!
BUT I DON’T LIKE STRETCHING…
Believe it or not, Pilates has very little to do with stretching – at least not in the static sense. While we work to mobilize and create flexibility, the goal will be to increase controlled range of motion instead of passive stretching.
CAN I BRING A FRIEND?
If you’re a good fit in terms of exercise and have prior Pilates experience or taken at least 3 privates with me, yes.
Contact me to schedule an assessment and for “duet” pricing.
DO YOU TEACH GROUPS?
YES! Check out my schedule here https://app.acuityscheduling.com/schedule.php?owner=19407539&template=class
Classes are generally conducted online via Zoom, but locals are welcome to stop by in person!
I WANT TO BOOK A GROUP CLASS/A PRESENTATION/PRIVATE SESSIONS FOR MY COMPANY/ORGANIZATION.
I love teaching group classes of varying abilities and regularly host Pilates/movement events at conferences. I’m also an experienced presenter. Contact me to discuss the details.
DO YOU HAVE A CANCELLATION POLICY?
Yes, 24 hours for private sessions and 12 hours for group classes.
WHAT IS THE BENEFIT OF PRIVATE SESSIONS?
Group classes are by nature fairly generic. No matter how good or qualified the instructor, he or she will always have to work on something that works for the entire group. This may not be what is best for you.
In private, one-on-one sessions, I can customize the program to your needs and how you feel every time you come in. This allows you to make much quicker progress towards your goals.
HOW DO I BOOK MY SESSIONS/CLASSES?
I have a handy-dandy booking tool that will let you choose what to book when. Simply click on “Book a session” to access the link.
If you’re having trouble with the booking tool, please see this blog post for a detailed walk-through.
You can also message me and I’m happy to help!
WHAT COVID-19 SAFETY MEASURES DO YOU HAVE IN PLACE!
I’m glad you asked! I’m a Pilates and movement coach, and also an experienced medical writer and translator and currently doing my second master’s degree in Public Health (Population Health). I also work with some VERY vulnerable folks with autoimmune issues and chronic conditions as well as cancer survivors. So I take my job of keeping everyone safe VERY seriously.
- In-person sessions are currently only available for those who are fully vaccinated and boosted.
- I clean my equipment thoroughly after every session.
- I will wear a mask if you prefer.
- Remote classes and private sessions are also offered via Zoom – regularly scheduled or we can always substitute a Zoom session if you don’t feel comfortable coming in person.
- If you are NOT feeling well, please do not come into the studio. Instead, contact me to reschedule or arrange for a remote session.
THANK YOU for helping me keep everyone safe so we can all get to a better place soon!
